About Us

In 1992, the Astros Field Hockey Club evolved from the Hillhurst Kodiaks and Wanderers Field Hockey Teams, which existed from the late 1970's until 1992.

Astros FHC has grown from 3 outdoor and 2 indoor teams under the former Hillhurst name to its present number of 6 outdoor and 6 indoor teams, including a couple of junior teams. Astros FHC currently fields 2 A-League teams, 2 B-League teams, 2 C-League teams and 6 indoor teams.

The Astros-A team consistently places near the top of the league and provides competitive playing opportunities. The Sonics-A team is the latest addition to the Astros FHC family, joining the ladies' A-league for the spring of 2002.

Ranging in age and experience from 13- 50+, the 4 B/C-league teams each have their own unique personalities. All 4 teams are very competitive within their respective leagues, consistently battling for top positions within the leagues.

Starting in the fall of 2003, the indoor side of the club continued to expand, which lead to a bit of transformation. The focus leaned heavily on team-building and consistency, so there was a bit of reorganizing among a few of our teams to keep members of our indoor and outdoor teams together where possible.

The Astros-A team splits into 2 teams for the indoor league. The TNT indoor team continues to be highly competitive, placing at the top or in the top 2 of the league and its respective division for several years running. Emerging as a very strong competitive threat in the top 3 of Division I indoor is the Astros indoor team. The Astros team finished a close second in the regular season for Winter 2007. The Stars and Sonics teams also provide strong competition in Division I and will only get better as players gain more indoor playing experience. Meanwhile, in Division II, Omegas are re-emerging as a strong and competitive team, while the Titans-indoor/Sonics-C outdoor are steadily improving and providing some good competition and close matches in Division II. For Titans, there were significant changes to the roster for 2006/7 and the team is continuing to build some good team chemistry and made a surprising run in the Fall to move to Div. II from Div. III.

Many club members are active in field hockey at the provincial, varsity, and community levels, either coaching, playing, or umpiring.... A great club with diverse teams to play for ... Teams are consistently within the top of their respective leagues.

New members are always welcome!!!
