Astros Jr. Preseason Boot Camp - April 10th, 12th, 16th, 18th

We are excited to launch our 2nd annual Astros U12/U14/U17 Preseason Boot Camp in April to kick off the upcoming spring junior field hockey season. The dates are April 10th, 12th, 16th, and 18th from 7pm – 9pm at the Viper Dome (2221 Crowchild Tr. NW). There are a number of Astros Club members who will be helping to coach.

The boot camp will be held in the North Dome at the VIPER DOME (you can Google “Absolute Baseball Academy”). The facility is on the East/NE side of the McMahon Stadium parking lot (on the Crowchild Tr. side, just across from Stadium Nissan). There are 2 domed structures and (free) parking is in between the domes. The indoor turf field is the NORTH dome. There is a change/washroom in the North Dome.

This is a chance for our Astros Junior Club to kick off the outdoor CJP season (while staying warm and dry inside) and for some of our young up-and-coming players to meet and get coaching tips from some of our Astros club members and coaches.

For the sessions and dependent on the number of registrants, we will be looking to set up different stations/drills and having a couple of people at each of those stations/drills work with the kids and then rotating them through every 15 – 20 minutes. There would be mini-games for the last half hour. The more the merrier.

We plan to have the athletes separated into different age/skill level groups:

“NEW” (as the name implies … for those who are brand-new to field hockey),
“LEARN” (for our youngest group who have at least one season under their belts),
“PRACTICE” (for our intermediate age and skill group),
“PER-FECT” (for our oldest age group and/or athletes who can perform basic skills consistently and with less instruction)

For athletes who attend multiple sessions, we may move them from one group to another so that they get the appropriate level of coaching and the most out of their Boot Camp!

PARENTS

Prior to the Boot Camp, please e-Transfer the registration fee to “astrosfh@telusplanet.net” and use “name of club” and “astros” as the question and answer.
Alternatively, you may bring a cheque payable to “Astros Club” to the first session.

ATHLETES

You will need to wear shorts and T-shirt, plus running shoes, socks, and shin guards.
You will also need a mouth guard.
If you have your own stick, please bring it. If you do not yet have a stick, you may contact the Field Hockey Alberta office (403) 670-0018 to arrange to borrow one for the spring season; we may have a few extra sticks available.
You may also contact Sohail Abdullah (sohail63@gmail.com) or (403) 690-6195 if you would like to purchase field hockey equipment; we may also try to arrange for Sohail to come out to some of the sessions.

*As a note, the 2018 CJP Spring Program Registration link is now open on the Field Hockey Alberta website. Astros/Maroons will again practice on WEDNESDAYS and Astros will again practice on THURSDAYS.
