Congratulations to Brooke Van Oosten on being selected to participate in a tour to San Diego, CA as part of the Canadian National Junior Development Squad. The tour will be from February 7th – 17th at the Chula Vista Elite Training Centre.

Brooke was selected after being selected for and attending National Talent Identification Camps in Vancouver (2016) and Calgary (2017), along with other athletes from Calgary, which include Paige Koochin, Reath Trainor, and Kiya Gosselin. Some of them may eventually join Brooke on future development squad opportunities.

Brooke plays for the Astros-A and Astros-B teams for outdoor and plays for the Astros/TNT teams for indoor.

The York University Lions field hockey team won the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship for the first time since 1996 with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.

With the win, their eighth in program history, the Lions have also advanced to the U SPORTS championships this coming weekend in Vancouver.

Congratulations and good luck to PAIGE KOOCHIN (Astros-A, Astros-B) and the rest of her York team at Nationals this weekend.

Omegas had an up-and-down 2017 season, but were able to earn some wins that helped them to finish 6th through regular season play. There were some welcome additions with Rebecca Englert and Ceilidh Marshall joining the team from indoor, but the team missed some key core players with Gabby Robson and Jenelle Umbsaar not being available to play for most of the season. Omegas faced off against a tough Cougars-White and lost their semi-final match. The team rebounded and persevered to finish on a good note and a 2 – 1 win over Roadrunners to finish 7th for the season!

Titans Rebuilding for the Future

Posted by Astros Field Hockey Club at Aug 24, 2017 1:20PM PDT

Titans was essentially a brand new team, as there were only 2 returning field players from previous seasons. As with all “new teams”, there were some growing pains as the team worked towards building some chemistry and consistency. The team played shorthanded for much of the spring, but started to slow develop and develop their team play. Hopefully, with a few more players continuing to play together through the indoor season and players who are going away for university studies returning next spring, the team will build a consistent core again and return to the success that the team enjoyed in previous years.

Astros-A Win Gold!

It was a rematch of the 2016 Gold Medal match where Astros-A faced off against Phoenix Black. This time, Astros-A emerged victorious with a well-earned and well-disciplined 3 – 0 win over Phoenix Black. There were a few cards sprinkled in the game for both teams to make things interesting. A few of our youngsters (and a few of us who aren’t quite as young anymore) got to experience double-gold in winning with Astros-A and Astros-B.

Astros-A were able to follow the lead of Astros-B who had won Gold in their league final the previous night!
